Reducing Fear, Tension, & Stress In Pregnancy & Birth

Fear, Tension, Resistance, & Stress will only set you up for a longer & more uncomfortable labor. It’s a recipe for greater pain and is a loop that feeds on itself.


In my Prenatal Movement & Birth Prep Classes (both private and the classes I host at studios) I often begin with an invitation to visualize your birth. More specifically I want you to imagine the things you can control. Birth is unpredictable, but there are certain things you can control. 


Where you would be, who is there (& who isn’t there), what you can smell (using aromatherapy), the lighting (no bright lights maybe), & anything else you want (or don’t want) at your birth. 


And the biggest things that you can control and work on during pregnancy - you thoughts, mindset, and breath. 


Your mind is where fear begins - fear of the unknown, fear from a difficult prior birth, fear from things they’ve heard others have experienced, fear of the postpartum period. These fears can swirl around in your mind and result in tension and resistance to labor and birth building in your body. 


Addressing these fears with knowledge, compassion, and surrender can reduce stress and soften your body to allow for birth to occur more smoothly and your recovery postpartum to be faster and more complete.


Even if certain plans have to change, you can feel safe and in control of your reaction to it. You can understand what is happening, you can bring things that make you feel comfortable and safe, you can keep your stress down through pregnancy, you can practice labor positions and breathing with your partner or support person. 



Anything that makes you feel safe, brings down your stress, & allows you to stay in a rhythm.


These are all things that I help you with through doula and movement services. 


As your doula we would dive deep into your and your partner’s fears or concerns and address them together. We would talk through what is really going on when you are in labor and ways to aid in labor progression. And you’ll learn about all the different types of birth and the risks and benefits to each. 


As your movement instructor (whether in a studio class or during a private session) you get a dose of childbirth education, breathing & relaxation techniques, and (of course) mental and physical preparation for your body and your birth.
